Every animal has a story.
These are just some of the animals that have been rescued and cared for by Animals in Distress.
Many arrive injured, neglected or abandoned — but with treatment and compassion they are given a second chance.

Animals We Have Rescued
Over the years Animals in Distress has rescued and cared for many animals that arrived injured, abandoned or neglected.
With veterinary care, patience and compassion many of these animals recovered and were released back into the wild or rehomed into loving homes.

Owl Hit Window
This owl flew into a window and was knocked unconscious. After being monitored and cared for at the sanctuary it was able to recover.

Hawk Rescue
This hawk was brought to the sanctuary after being found injured and unable to fly. After treatment and rest, it was able to recover.
Farm Rescue
Rescued Ponies
These ponies arrived needing care and proper feeding. With time, treatment and attention they made a full recovery. This was one of four ponies that came to us in this condition.

Rabbit With Overgrown Teeth
This rabbit arrived with overgrown teeth and an infected eye. With veterinary treatment and care it recovered well.

Bearded Dragon Rescue
This bearded dragon had been kept in unsuitable conditions and needed care and rehabilitation.
Wildlife Rescue
Injured Swan Rescue
This swan was brought to the sanctuary after being found injured and unable to fly. After treatment and rest it was able to recover.

Baby Bat Rescue
This young bat was found alone and unable to fly. After careful feeding and care it was successfully released back into the wild.

Hedgehog Rescue
This hedgehog was found weak and in need of care. After treatment and rehabilitation it was returned safely to the wild.

Deer Hit By Car
This deer hit a car at high speed. After treatment by the vets and care at the sanctuary it was successfully released back into the wild.

Rescued Ponies
These ponies arrived needing care and proper feeding. With time, treatment and attention they made a full recovery. This was one of four ponies that came to us in this condition.

Cat Rescue
This kitten was hand-reared after being found without a mother. After receiving care and attention, she was successfully rehomed.
Reptile Rescue
Iguana Rescue
This iguana had been kept in a tank that was too small and had injured its nose trying to escape. With care the injury healed.
Cruelty Cases
Sadly the sanctuary staff sometimes deal with cases of cruelty or severe neglect.
Some are caused by deliberate harm, while others result from people not understanding how to properly care for animals.
These images highlight the reality of rescue work and why education and compassion are so important.

Dog Found With Knife Wound
This bull mastiff was found wandering with a knife wound. After treatment and care it recovered.

Dog Found Severely Underweight
This dog arrived at the sanctuary extremely underweight. With proper feeding and care the dog slowly regained strength and health.

This animal arrived with severe untreated injuries after being neglected. Intensive care and treatment were required.

Neglected Hooves – Pony Rescue
This pony was rescued with badly overgrown hooves after going without proper care for a long time. Regular treatment and farrier work helped restore the pony’s health and comfort.

Leo – Before Rescue
Leo arrived at the sanctuary severely underweight after being starved. He required careful feeding and constant monitoring to help him regain his strength.

After weeks of careful feeding and treatment, Leo regained his strength and health and was able to enjoy a much happier life.
Happy Endings – Animals Rehomed
Many animals that arrive at the sanctuary have come from difficult situations.
After receiving veterinary care, patience and rehabilitation, many go on to find safe and loving homes.
Each successful rehoming is a reminder of why this work matters. These animals are now living happy lives thanks to the care of the Animals in Distress team and the kindness of their new families.

Tree Frog Greenie
Greenie arrived as a stowaway from overseas and was safely taken into our care. After settling in, he was quickly found a loving home.

Rabbits Flower & Cuthbert
Flower and Cuthbert came to us as unwanted pets. With care and attention, they were soon happily rehomed together.

Bubble & Squeak (Rats)
These two rats were surrendered as unwanted pets. They were cared for and quickly found a new home as a pair.

We regularly take in kittens like Sunny and Sky, giving them the care they need before finding them loving forever homes.

These polecats came to us as unwanted pets. After proper care and rehabilitation, they were successfully rehomed.

Coco the Pup
Coco was found injured and unable to walk after being cruelly abandoned. With treatment and care, she made a full recovery and is now happily rehomed and full of life.
